User Registration and Approval
Overview
In summer 2026, the Project Leader application is being replaced with a new modern platform with better security and a better user experience for managing AKN projects. As part of this process, User Approval workflows are being updated with new email templates and a new landing page from the link in the email. There are no major changes in functionality; however, a lot of work was put into streamlining and modernizing the code, including:
Moving transactional messages to a new modern structure.
Improved reliability.
Improved handling of user project role permissions.
Modernizing authentication flows to meet high security standards.
For the user experience, there are just a few new and changed features to note:
New features
AKN branding in email templates.
Ability to configure all researcher settings on one workflow when approving project access for a user.
Improved error messaging.
Confirmation pages in new modern framework.
Improved confirmation messaging for users.

Consolidated the workflows for approving both new and existing AKN users' project access into one page.
