Sampling Unit Manager
Overview
In February 2026, Sampling Unit Manager will launch, providing a new modern platform with better security and a better user experience for managing the sampling units within a project.
New features:
Workflows can be completed on one page, minimizing clicks needed to complete a task.
Latitude and longitude values for geometry can now be added without having to navigate to the location on the map.
A confirmation prompt has been added for Deleting sampling units.
Messaging has been added about progress status while Deleting sampling units.
When moving a sampling unit in the hierarchy, users can now view the selected new place in the hierarchy before committing to moving the sampling unit.
Deprecated features:
Creating area search plots with a center point are not supported at this time. However, Bulk Uploader supports this functionality, and can be used as a work-around until this is incorporated back into Sampling Unit Manager.
Creating sampling units from KML, Waypoint, or GPS-U files is no longer supported. However, Bulk Uploader supports KML file import, and can be used as a work-around until this is incorporated back into Sampling Unit Manager. Waypoint and GPS-U will remain deprecated permanently.
Changed features:
Users receive instantaneous validation prior to triggering an action. Previously, a user did not know there was a problem until clicking Save and being redirected to another page. For example:
Users will receive instant and clear error messaging when a duplicate short and long name combination is added for a new sampling unit in the project. Users will not be able to select Add Sampling Unit (for a new sampling unit) or Update Sampling Unit until the error is resolved.
Users will not be able to start creating a new sampling unit if the selected parent does not support children.
Sampling unit types that are not supported for data entry (or their children) in Biologists are hidden by default.
Landowner Category is hidden by default.
A bug with the “Zoom to location” option in the geometry modal has been fixed.
The “Location is discoverable” and “Location is active for new observations” questions have been made into checkboxes for consistency with other yes/no options throughout the Project Management Portal.
User may only assign one sampling unit type to a new sampling unit.
Improved error messaging when one or more duplicate sampling unit names is submitted through a shapefile upload.
Improved error messaging when selected sampling unit(s) cannot be deleted due to the presence of associated data.
Clearer presentation of what and how many sampling unit(s) are being deleted.
