Project Downloader

Overview

On May 30, 2025, Project Downloader launched, replacing the Project Leader components for downloading field observation data and sampling unit metadata. Project Downloader provides a new modern platform with better security and a better user experience.

New features:

• Download data from multiple projects at once

• Download multiple survey types at once

• Download sampling unit metadata with data in the same download (these will be in separate files)

• Filter projects/datasets by Program (where applicable) 

Deprecated features:

The following field observation downloads are no longer available:

• Point Count Transect Summary

• Species list

• Legacy RAIL Count

• Banding Effort

The following sampling unit downloads are no longer available:

• Measurements (areas only)

Changed features:

• File names inside the downloaded zip file include the projectid and survey/file type (e.g., AGASSIZNWR_Marshbird.csv).

• The old links have been deprecated (https://data.pointblue.org/apps/projectleaders/index.php?page=field-observations-download and https://data.pointblue.org/apps/projectleaders/index.php?page=project-reports)

• Secretive Marshbird data downloads now include detection cue in the data grid instead of a “1” indicating an observation.

• File headers and content changed slightly, as detailed below.

• Some sampling unit downloads have been deprecated.

Any extended fields associated with one or more protocols in the download will appear after Data Status.

Site Condition Data Downloads

* Note, the specific site condition fields will vary by protocol, but names will remain the same as they were in the old downloads. Protocol-specific field order may vary slightly.

Notes on time bins:

• If the result set is limited to just one protocol, the “MinX” columns will use the detection aid and the minute in the headers (passive_min_X or speciescode_X)

• If the result set includes multiple protocols, the number of “MinX” columns depends on the maximum number of time bins of the protocols selected for download. Headers will be generic “MinX”; the user will need to know the definitions for each particular protocol to identify if they are passive or active minutes, and how many minutes are in each particular protocol (e.g., some may be blank for shorter protocols in the data set).
