The informatics department at Point Blue supports Point Blue’s strategic goals and objectives by developing software applications for Point Blue staff and partners.
What do we do?
Database Management:
Point Blue maintains a large data warehouse that organizes and maintains over … of data. We house data for our own scientists as well as federal, state, and non-profit partners.
Data entry forms:
We build intuitive and secure websites where you can enter, manage, and download data.
We work with external partners to support custom protocols in the database. Depending on how similar a protocol is to others already supported by our database we will alter an existing protocol to fit your project or we can build a new database model from scratch.
Data Entry form example: Create a new survey visit

Maps and Data Visualization:
We develop web based applications that use maps and data layers to communicate findings for any audience. One goal of these interactive maps are to help visualize data spatially, which can help in the decision making process.
Examples: Our Coast Our Future Map
Data Analysis Tools:
We build data analysis tools to help researchers quickly and efficiently explore their data. These are interactive application that can be used for data exploration, analysis, and report generation to name a few.
Examples: ShinyApp goes here
Security:
Point Blue is working on becoming FedRAMP certified, which is the highest security standard specific to cloud based data systems. This is a standard required by federal agencies. We are becoming FedRAMP certified so we can continue to support our federal partners and insure the security of our data.
